Waiting in Line - 6:30 Cabo Time

We are about an hour outside of mahem. The line is growing by the dozens every 10 minutes or so. Right now the line is approximately 8 city blocks in length.

I got some more sleep, as I think Randy and Rod did too. We have moved up a little in th eline. We are about 20 yards from the end of the corner which turns three more times before reaching the cantina.

Most of the people who have slept all night are arriving and taking their places in line. This is where it starts to get nasty. We'll see how many more crowd themselves in line in front of us. We're not hopeful that we are going to get tickets.

Waiting in Line - 5 am Cabo Time

We are half through the wait.
  • So far, I've slept for like an hour on a hard mexican sidewalk. My hair is a curly mess.
  • I've learned a new card game called Booya. It's from theNew Orleans friend waiting in line in front of us.
  • The line this year is very, very long. We're 4 city blocks from the front door of the Cantina. Crossing our fingers.
  • Rod bought Pacifico beer on the black market. The going rate for a 6-pack is 100 pesos.
  • I've had a little water, b/c there are no bathrooms. I'd really like a big glass or orange juice.
  • We had some hoes offer up their restroom across the sidewalk.
  • If you get down to three or less beers in your cooler, it is considered Defcon 4 and a call to the President may be in order.
  • Roosters crow very early in Cabo - this morning they started at 3 a.m.
  • We have pictures, lots of pictures. However, we didn't bring our USB cable to publish them to the web. We suck.

Waiting in Line - Midnight Cabo Time

Well, we have arrived on the streets winding behind the Cabo Wabo Cantina. It's around 1:30 a.m. CDT. We're a little afraid that we're not going to get tickets because we are too far back in line. But, we're in it for the long haul. The streets are jammed and people are still pretty mild.

Behind us in line is a guy passed out, literally sleeping face down on the concrete sidewalk. EWWW. In front of us, we've got a mild bunch too.

We're across the street from the Giggling Marlin, so we anticipate it getting rowdy as the bar winds down.

I've been able to find a hotspot with my wireless card. So, I'll be surfing the web as long as I have the access.

Randy and Rod are going on a recon mission to count the number of people in line. They'll also bring photos.

More updates as the morning progresses.

Name Calling

"I've never acknowledged that you are so Left."
"Left??"
"Yeah, as in Liberal."
"Don't say it like it's a disease. I can't help it I'm Right."

The Bender - Cabo Style

Well, first, the webcam isn't functioning b/c the internet access at the condo is down due to the storm from Otis. D4MMIT! At any rate, they have called "the man" to come and fix it. So, hopefully, we'll be able to post soon.

I've been journaling since we arrived, and I'll post those updates as soon as I'm able to get wired.

We're in Cabo today, because quite frankly, we couldn't remember what we did in Cabo last night. We went beach combing all day and eventually ended up on Medano Beach.

And yes, you did see Rod and I enter a dancing contest on the stage of Mangos. If you want to see the stage, it's at www.allaboutcabo.com We didn't win, and we really don't see how we lost b/c we did turns dammit!! Lots and lots of turns & twists; we had style. We did get some shots of tequilia. I think.

Randy took a header into the sand at Mangos after drinking ALL DAY. We went and stood in line for the Sammy Hagar concert, but we didn't have tickets. DOH! We realized this after standing in line for about an hour. Tickets? We don't need no stinking tickets! So after Rod sprayed the crowd with his beer, we decided we should leave.

Right now, we're working on case 2 of pacifico, 15 margaritas, and ohhh the guys are drinking again. If I smell el Presidente brandy ever again, it's surely to be a bad scene.

More updates later...

Rossy’s

A long time favorite of the locals, you haven’t experienced the true flavor of San Jose until you’ve lunched at Rossy’s. The best fish tacos in the world come from a quaint taqueria along Highway 1 across from the Castro Market.

For 18 pesos, you get a corn tortilla filled with seafood (fish of the day, shrimp, scallops, or calamari) of your choice. Throw on some mayo, cabbage, jalapeños, pico, and green sauce from the relish bar. Add one Coca-Cola, and you’re set for the best lunch in town.

Do your taste buds a favor - don’t leave Cabo without stopping here to eat.

Beaches along The Corridor

We went driving along The Corridor today to find some of the exclusive beaches along the Sea of Cortez.

Palmilla Beach – KM 26
Located in front of The One and Only Palmilla Resort, there is one of the few swimming beaches in Cabo. This beach also is a launch pad for panga boats taking fishermen out to their vessels. We didn’t stay as we’ve visited this beach before while fishing.

Chileno Beach – Access available from KM 14 via River Bed
This is a great place for snorkeling and scuba diving. Conditions are excellent for swimming, and the marine life is very unique.

Tequilia Cove
In front of the Hilton Los Cabos, this beach is beautiful. It stretches for miles and miles making it easy to get lost in your walk. The great thing about this beach is that there were no vendors harassing you. We had a great time. This is a great beach for sun bathing. Best sand we saw all day.

Santa Maria – KM 11.5
The entrance to this beach is tricky. You will need to take the entrance to the east of the Twin Dolphins. It appears that the beach if “off limits.” It’s not, but do proceed with caution.

Beware of the roads. Pull off and walk the road to test for solid ground. Recent storms have eroded the roads. We saw a 4 wheel drive truck stuck in the sand and several travelers turned around and were not willing to forge ahead with the roads so unstable.

This is a beautiful beach. Here you will find the finest cove and best snorkeling in the Baja. There are coral reefs and beautifully colored fish. The beach is littered with coral that has washed ashore. Many, many different types of birds sing and live in this area. It’s so great to watch them scoop up fish from the ocean.

If you have the guts to endure the walk/drive to this beach, you won’t be sorry.

The Car

My driving skills** rival that of a race car driver, crashing into a wall, without a signal. It’s a well known fact that I drive like crap. If you’re in my car, deal with it. For the love of God, I don’t want to hear about how I’m endangering your life. Please, you have feet, use them.

I’ve had the car keys since we arrived. This means that I’ve been “the chauffer” for the boys. Yesterday was Rod’s turn to sit in the front seat. He wasn’t a very helpful copilot.

So far, I’ve been accused of running two stop signs and turning the wrong way on a one way street. I’ve driven across Highway 1 straddling two lanes. And then, there was that whole “incident” driving to the beach.

In my own defense, I never saw the stop signs, it was only the wrong way b/c all the other people were driving the opposite direction, and I didn’t realize the turnaround was two lanes.

The beach thing…well that wasn’t my fault either. You see, there was this big drop off from the road and the erosion from recent storms made the entrance almost impassable. And, the big metal thing that scraped the bottom of the car? Well, there were no fluids leaking from the car after driving across it. Everything was fine.

**For the record, I offered the copilot the opportunity to explain about my driving from his perspective, he declined.

Overheard on a Sunday Drive about Barb’s Driving

On the Square

“Hey lady, let me show you my place.”

Remind me again; catcalling is an accepted practice south of border.

On the progressive front, I read in Destino Los Cabos that it is now unlawful to abuse your wife in Mexico. Surely, catcalling isn’t that far behind?

Naughty Girl Now Good??

“Check out 3 o’clock.”
“She has tattoos.”
“Are you judging her b/c of her artistic expression?”
“It means she’s a naughty girl.”

Hours later…
“I guess a little butterfly or flower wouldn’t be THAT bad.”

On the Curb

“Lady? HEY Laaaddyyyy?”

To his friend in Spanish, “What is Lady in English?”
“Laaaadddddyyyyyyyy”

To my friends in English, “How do you say rude in Spanish?”

Saturday - SJC

We’ve arrive, but as we suspected, we are unable to connect to the internet. We will have to wait until Monday for David to come and check our settings. Cross your fingers that the Cam will be up and functioning.

We’ve decided to do dinner local tonight at one of our favorite places in San Jose del Cabo, Jazmines. This gem is located off the Square so you must walk uphill (think San Francisco) from the Church end of the square about three blocks, turn right at the Bancomer, and look in windows. As is custom in the Baja, there is not adequate signage to indicate you are at your destination.

We started with some cold Pacifico, since they were out of bottled water. We had some great guacamole and tortillas and some fresh chipotle salsa. MMmmmm…

Although we’ve dined at Jazmines about 9 times and sampled many of their entrees, tonight each of us settled on a classic Mexican meal, Chile Rellenos (90 pesos). These are the best chile rellenos around town. Everything is always so fresh, and their ranchero sauce is dreamy. Rachel Ray, eat your heart out.

We finished dinner and headed back to the car. We had to get groceries prior to 10 p.m. We stocked up on the basics and headed back to the condo.

We closed our evening after agreeing we were all tired and needed sleep realizing this will probably be our only decent night of rest in the coming week.

As a side note, the temperature here is almost uncomfortable. It’s very humid, the effects of Otis still lingering in the air. The sun is very intense; I don’t recall October being this hot from any of our other visits.

Mexico City – I’ve fallen and can’t get up!

I don’t know what voodoo spell I have on my feet while walking the “main drag” in the Mexico City airport. This is the THIRD time in two years that I’ve slipped, scuffled, and busted my a$$* in front of the entire Mexican population. This time though, I had style. I said “WOOOOWEEEE” very loudly as I slipped and stopped my fall before chipping a tooth on the shiny marble floor. The Nationals held up cards with a 9.5 on them.

*the busting of the a$$ is in no way related to the Bloody Marys inflight.

Pickem'

Eagles fly higher than Falcons; Cowboys ride Colts bareback better than Redskins; and AA Gate 18 made my Yahoo! picks this week.

I solicited the help of some Y gene benefactors this week for my Yahoo! Pickem’ Picks. I forgot to make my picks this week. I’ve been preoccupied all week in New York, and I haven’t studied. So, I did the next best thing. Heads down, Thumbs Up! Here’s to keeping my lead??#?$@?

The Happy Traveler – aka Rodney

“Let’s get this over with…” Somebody had a little too much PreCabo Pacifico and was feeling a little “Face Down” this morning as we were waiting at Gate 18 to board our flight to Mexico City. And, yes Mr. Langston, we welcome you to Cabo Cinco, even if your Sombrero is a little tight this morning.

We’re 25 minutes into our trip, and I’m ready for bloody mary numero dos. I’m not quite sure why, something about free drinks in first class makes me feel guilty if I don’t partake. Or it could be that I’m thirsty.

Ohhhhh yippee…the flight attendant is back. Yes, I’m clapping my hands excitedly. Bring on the Marys…and please, don’t feel obligated to ask me if I want a refill – the answer is always “Yes!”
